From agony to ecstasy in France, as the free-kick specialist helped fire his country past the group stages with a wonderful curling finish against Colombia.

However, his tournament went downhill rapidly when, against Argentina in the second round, he foolishly kicked out at Diego Simeone following a shove in the back.

Given his marching orders, the Three Lions went on to suffer penalty heartbreak, and leave Beckham as public enemy number one back home.
