So, you thought Alexandre Pato's open-goal gaffe in Corinthians' Copa Libertadores clash against Boca Juniors was the most shocking miss you'd ever seen?

Well, Criciúma midfielder Tartá has served up another contender for the worst howler in recent history, after spurning an equally easy opportunity to get on the scoresheet in Wednesday night's 3-1 victory over São Bernardo in the Copa do Brasil.

Latching on to a right-wing cross at the far post, the 24-year-old Brazilian somehow scooped his shot wide of the goal from two yards out, when it appeared easier to score!

Tartá might have been under pressure from the opposition goalkeeper and retreating defender, but that's really no excuse for the terrible open-goal miss.

Thankfully for him, the error had little impact on the result, with Criciúma progressing to the next round of the tournament with a 4-2 aggregate victory.
