Arsenal get Serie A competition for £10m target

Arsenal have gained some Serie A competition in the race to sign Southampton’s exciting young midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan have been watching the Frenchman and have been impressed by his performances in the Premier League this season.

The report claims the Nerazzurri are considering bid, which is likely to interest Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners were reportedly weighing up a £10million bid for the defensive midfielder as part of the expected summer spending spree at Emirates Stadium.

Persistent injury problems for Abou Diaby, Wenger’s apparent lack of trust in Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta having to play out of position have left Arsenal with an area of concern in front of the defence.

Vice-captain Arteta has filled in well but does not always look comfortable there and many Gunners fans believe Wenger has not replaced Alex Song sufficiently.

Schneiderlin moved to Southampton as an 18-year-old from Strasbourg and has been a mainstay during the club’s march from League One to the Premier League.

The tall midfielder is good on the ball but he has been incredibly effective in breaking up opposition play this season – his interception and tackling stats are among the highest in the division.
