The 29-year-old has not really kicked on after showing some great promise as a young striker for Germany Under-21s until this season.

Bayer Leverkusen signed the raw striker in 2006 and he has been a regular scorer for them, though this term he is having his best ever year.

All the talk is of Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski, but Kießling is one goal ahead of the much-sought-after Pole in the race to be Bundesliga top scorer – he is less high-profile and would be significantly cheaper.
