Arsenal have all but agreed a four-year deal with exciting young French prospect Yaya Sanogo and he will join the Gunners on a free transfer this summer.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed his interest in the France Under-21 international on Friday morning in his press conference.
However, Wenger insisted that there was still some way to go before he could say Sanogo was an Arsenal player.
“It is in advanced stages, but it is not done,” was the Frenchman’s reply when quizzed over reports in France about an imminent agreement.
According to French radio station RMC, Wenger and scout Gilles Grimandi met with the 20-year-old and are on the verge of shaking hands on a long-term contract to take him to Emirates Stadium once the summer transfer window opens.
Arsenal are reportedly ready to go on an unprecedented spending spree this summer, though the free capture of Sanogo is likely to be an added bonus and is more in line with the perception of a typical Wenger signing.
The France Under-21 international is currently playing for Ligue 2 club Auxerre and has scored eight goals in seven games this season after coming back from a long-term groin injury.
