Chelsea's move for Bayer Leverkusen's Andre Schurrle has ground to a halt while the German club seek a replacement for the forward - with their first choice, Blues youngster Kevin de Bruyne, eying a move to Borussia Dortumnd.

The Blues appeared to be close to sealing a £20m deal for Schurrle having reportedly agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old last month.

Leverkusen had hoped to include De Bruyne as part of the deal in order to fill the gap left behind by Schurrle - however Dortmund's interest in the Belgian youngster has put paid to that.

The Guardian report that the move is on hold until a solution can be found, although the fact De Bruyne has been vocal in his desire to join Dortmund looks to have derailed the deal.

The Champions League finalists are in the market for a replacement for the out-going Mario Gotze, who is on his way to Bayern Munich in the summer.

Dortmund are said to be keen on landing De Bruyne, who has impressed in the Bundesliga while on loan with Werder Bremen.

Chelsea initially only wanted to loan De Bruyne out for another season, however Dortmund's interest will test their resolve.
