The Barclay’s Premier League is almost wrapped up as another season has come and gone.
Manchester United managing to dethrone their arch-rivals Manchester City and reclaim their Premier League crown, whilst Wigan Athletic, Reading and Queens Park Rangers have all been relegated to the Championship.
Over the course of the season we have seen some brilliant matches and equally brilliant individuals, as fans we have been blessed with countless star-studded names to grace the league.
At the moment we have the likes of Robin van Persie, Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez putting the ball into the back of net on multiple occasions with van Persie set to take the Premier League golden boot award.
So this brings up the question, out of all the strikers currently playing in the Premier League, which one is actually the most prolific? Who actually has the best goal to game ratio? Suarez? Rooney? Van Persie?
Let’s take a look at who the most prolific strikers in the Premier League are:
=8th: Javier Hernandez; Carlos Tevez; Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent = 0.42 goals per game
The Manchester United, City, Aston Villa and Fulham strikers all have the exact same goals to game ratio for the time they have each spent in the Premier League.
Javier Hernandez has only ever played for Manchester United in the league, and has managed 32 goals in 76 league appearances whilst former Manchester United striker has also had a spell with West Ham United; scoring 84 times in 200 league games.
Dimitar Berbatov has played for three clubs in the league, his time at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Fulham mean he has scored 89 in 210 games whilst Darren Bent has played for a handful of clubs, spells with Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland see Darren Bent scoring 102 goals in 244 games, a figure which could have increased if Paul Lambert decided to play him more often.
=6th: Fernando Torres; Emmanuel Adebayor = 0.43 goals per game
It is amusing how two players who have received some of the harshest criticism over the past year have managed to appear within the top ten of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League.
Obviously the current campaigns for both men have not been the best and it is clear that the reason Torres is one of the most prolific is because of his impact he had at Liverpool, whilst Adebayor grabbed his fair share of goals with Arsenal and Manchester City.
Emmanuel Adebayor has managed to grab 83 in 195 Premier League games whilst Fernando Torres has his stint at Liverpool to thank for his appearance, scoring 79 goals in 183 league matches, with 65 of them coming in a red jersey.
5th: Wayne Rooney = 0.45 goals per game
The England international does have a knack for scoring goals, he was born to do this and although he has not had the greatest of campaigns in front of the goal, it does not stop him from appearing at number five.
Combining his Everton and Manchester United goals, Wayne Rooney has managed to score 156 times in 345 Premier League games.
4th: Demba Ba = 0.48 goals per game
Understandably Demba Ba has not been in England for very long, but his appearance at number four shows the impact he has had in the league in the relatively short amount of time he has been here.
Having played for West Ham United, Newcastle United and now Chelsea, Ba has notched up 38 goals in 79 matches, which provides him with an impressive ratio.
3rd: Luis Suarez = 0.49 goals per game
Let us forget all of the controversy surrounding Suarez during his time at Liverpool, when you look at what he does on that pitch, it is remarkable. He has carried Liverpool for a number of games this season and is doing the job he gets paid to do.
He has only been at Anfield for two years and has scored 38 goals in 77 Premier League games, which is the equivalent to 0.49 goals per game.
2nd: Robin van Persie = 0.52 goals per game
The leading goal scorer in the Premier League, Robin van Persie has surely fired Manchester United to the Premier League title this season, finally getting his hands on that trophy. Many doubted whether Van Persie could manage to put together a great season at Manchester United, and continue where he left off at Arsenal.
During his time at Arsenal and now Manchester United, Robin Van Persie has managed to grab 121 goals in 231 appearances in The Premier League.
1st: Sergio Aguero = 0.55 goals per game
Manchester United may have beaten Manchester City to the Premier League crown, but at the moment Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero remains the most prolific striker in the Premier League today. Rumour has it that he does not love life at the Etihad and potential new manager Manuel Pellegrini may have a tough task on his hands to keep Aguero at the club.
Regardless of the circumstances, Aguero is only in his second season in the league and has scored 34 goals in 62 matches for Manchester City, the equivalent to 0.55 goals per game.
