Manchester United have won their 20th league title this season. The signing of Robin van Persie was key but United have had 20 different goal scorers in the league so far this season proving it really was a team performance.

Here we look at Manchester Uniteds team of the year.

Goalkeeper - David de Gea

There is no doubting David de Gea has improved hugely from last season. The mistakes have gone and he seems more comfortable collecting crosses. Also the shot stopping has been top draw as he proves time and time again.

Right-back - Rafael

The young Brazilian has had a fantastic season and has very much cemented his place as first choice right-back playing 28 times in the league. He has improved the defending side of his game and has looked as good as ever going forward. He has also scored some fantastic goals this season. A curling left footer at Anfield and an absolute screamer against QPR at Loftus Road the pick.

Centre-back - Rio Ferdinand

He may be 34 but this season he has shown he still is one of the best defenders around. There is no doubt he has lost a yard of pace but his ability to read the game is second to none. He has been strong and managed to stay more or less injury free. His performances will surely result in him being offered a new deal at Old Trafford.

Centre-back - Jonny Evans

Now the popular choice here would be captain Nemanja Vidic but he simply hasn't played enough. He spent a large part of the season out injured but when he did return he was looking close to his best. But Jonny Evans, who filled in for Vidic, showed he was more than capable. He looked strong and formed a great partnership with Ferdinand. Whenever he was called upon he slotted nicely into the defence and looked like he had been playing in the United back four for years.

Left-back - Patrice Evra

Evra has been consistent as ever but was really the only candidate for this position. Alexander Buttner was bought in to give Evra some competition but that simply hasn't happened. Buttner is a good player and has had some good performances but nothing to put Evra's position in danger.

Right-wing - Antonio Valencia

No one stands out here. Valencia has not had the season he had last season, not close. Nani has hardly played and when he has he's frustrated the fans. Valencia makes the team simply because he has the abilty to create when taking on the opposing full-back and has shown glimpses of that this season.

Central-midfield - Michael Carrick

The England international has without doubt had the best season of his Manchester United career. He has played 35 times in the league this season and has hardly misplaced the ball. He has very much taken up the role of Paul Scholes and has the passing range to boot. The fact he won Manchester United players player of the year award shows what his team mates think of his performances this season to.

Central-midfield - Ryan Giggs

Giggs has had a fantastic season. He may not have played every game but when he has played he has shown unbelievable work ethic and ability. All this from a 39-year-old. He has taken on players half his age and beaten them for pace and strength and he has the ability to pluck a world class pass out of know where, think back to Upton Park in the FA Cup. No one comes close to taking Giggs' place in this team or the year.

Left-wing - Danny Welbeck

Now he may be a striker and he may not have scored many goals this season either but when he has played on the left he has been fantastic. He tracked back, got forward, marked players and stuck with them and more. All he needs to do is add goals but when you ask an out and out striker to play on the wing his goals are surely going to fade out.

Striker - Wayne Rooney

He hasn't had the best of seasons, injuries didn't help, but he has scored 12 league goals in 27 appearances which isn't bad. Also he has spent time playing in midfield so hasn't been getting forward as much. When he was playing in midfield he did what was asked and more, playing passes Paul Scholes would be proud of.

Striker - Robin van Persie

Well there were plenty of people outside of Manchester United who were questioning the signing of RVP. £24 million for a 29-year-old. But he has more than answered any critics. He has played in all United's league games so far this season and scored 25 league goals including a hat-trick to clinch the title. He has also shown great movement in and around the penalty box and shown great work ethic. He also won Manchester United fans player of the year and will surely pick up the golden boot to.

There were several players who could have made the team but just missed out. Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley, Paul Scholes and Javier Hernandez were close but just didn't do quite enough to make the team of the year.
