Barcelona stars motivated by 100-point target

Barcelona are now just two games away from matching La Liga points record.

A 2-1 home win over mid-table Real Valladolid means the Catalan giants are now just two wins short of matching Real Madrid's La Liga record of 100 points in a season.

Madrid set the record last season on their way to winning La Liga, but Barca can equal the points tally with victory in their final two games.

Barcelona secured a fourth league title in five years last weekend and are now fighting to match their bitter rivals.

Goals from Pedro and a Marc Valiente own goal sealed the 2-1 win and after the game the Spain international revealed the teams incentive.

"We are pleased with the win. We are playing with the motivation of trying to reach 100 points which would be something important," he told Spanish broadcaster Canal Plus.

The Nou Camp played host to Barcelona's penultimate home game of the season as they were set to receive the La Liga trophy at full time.

Before any title presentations there was a game to be played. Although insignificant for some with the league already wrapped up, it was an important game for Victor Valdes. The goalkeeper, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season, was making his 500th appearance in a Barca shirt.

One man who had already passed that milestone is captain Carles Puyol, but unusually it was not the curly-haired skipper who lifted the trophy.

Puyol was presented with the silverware but immediately handed it over to manager Tito Vilanova and French defender Eric Abidal, who have both battled cancer in the last year, to lift.

Puyol told fans at the Nou Camp: "It's been a hard year. We've won La Liga but the most important thing is that Tito and Abi are with us."
