Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo were sent off at the Bernabeu on Friday night - during Real Madrid's 2-1 Spanish Cup final defeat to local rivals Atletico Madrid - and both could be on the same plane to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Ronaldo, the £80m forward, is at the centre of a fierce bidding war between Chelsea and Manchester United, yet Sir Alex Ferguson's Old Trafford departure and the return of Mourinho to his former club could persuade the Portugal international to join the Blues, reveals the Daily Mail.

Real Madrid's star striker has spent four seasons at the La Liga side, scoring an astonishing 201 goals, but has become frustrated by the lack of harmony at the club. United have the first option to sign Ronaldo, although only if the Portuguese player favours a return to the club.

Mourinho, who on Friday claimed that this season had been the worst of his career - after watching his team complete a trophy-less campaign from the stands - has worked with Ronaldo for three years and includes him on his list of multi-million pound transfer targets.

It has also emerged that Napoli striker Edinson Cavani is also wanted by the incoming Chelsea manager, with Blues bosses seeking a right-back, a midfielder and a star striker in the summer.

Meanwhile, interim Chelsea coach Rafa Benitez told reporters that owner Roman Abramovich is about to fund a £100m spree for his new manager.

The Spaniard is set to lead the Europa League winners on a post-season tour to the United States, with Mourinho expected to be in place shortly after their return on June 1st. The Portuguese is unlikely to tempt all three forwards to join the club but Chelsea intend to move swiftly.

Mourinho's relationship with Ronaldo has seemingly improved since the 28-year-old appeared to swear at his manager after scoring his 200th goal for Real. However, the duo could be spending even more time together at a restless Chelsea Football Club.
