Manuel Pellegrini has instructed Manchester City to secure the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin ahead of his arrival this summer.
According to the Daily Express, the current Malaga boss is all but certain to succeed the sacked Roberto Mancini at Etihad Stadium and has already identified targets for the club’s owners to spend their considerable funds on.
Manchester City are expected to make significant changes to the squad this summer as they prepare to win back the Premier League title they lost to rivals Manchester United this season.
Pellegrini has always been an admirer of Godin and it was the Chilean that brought him to Europe for the first time when he signed him for Villareal in 2007.
Godin is an experienced defender and has become a regular in the Uruguay national team since he moved to Europe from Uruguayan giants Nacional.
The report claims Kolo Toure is set to move to Premier League rivals Liverpool on a free transfer and so Manchester City will need to fill a gap in defence.
