Stevan Jovetic is Arsene Wenger’s main transfer target this summer and signs point to the Gunners getting their man this summer after finishing in the top four and qualifying for a chance at Champions League football.

Jovetic’s Fiorentina, on the other hand, did not make the Champions League cut and this could strengthen Arsenal’s prospects of landing the Montenegrin by offering him what the Serie A club can’t.

However, Fiorentina are resolute at keeping their asking price for the 23-year-old at £30m, according to the Evening Standard. Arsenal reportedly valued the player at between £20m and £25m and look unlikely to pay more than that.

But Arsenal are reportedly confident that Fiorentina will eventually lower their asking price despite growing interest from other suitors such as Manchester City and Italian giants Juventus – who are both capable of paying the full price without thinking too much about it.

Arsenal are willing to offer the Montenegrin £100k-a-week and personal terms shouldn’t be a problem should the Montenegro international decide to make the move to north London.

However, it seems that Arsenal aren’t pegging all their hopes on the Fiorentina striker and are showing interest in other strikers such as Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain as well as Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke.

Real are reportedly willing to let Higuain go for around £19m while it is unclear what Villa’s asking price for Benteke would be.

Nevertheless, Wenger looks set to spend big this summer with a very substantial kitty as well as his board’s endorsement to up player’s wages in order to lure the big names.

If not Jovetic, Arsenal fans can expect another big name to grace the Emirates Stadium next year.
