Ex-Holland international Edgar Davids will remain as Barnet's head coach despite their relegation from the Football League.

Davids took the reigns in October following the departure of Mark Robson but was unable to help the North Londoners beat the drop.

Despite encouraging performances results did not favour The Bees and they were relegated on goal difference on the last day of the season following a defeat at Northampton Town coupled with AFC Wimbledon's dramatic victory against Fleetwood Town.

After the defeat Davids claimed he wanted to discuss issues with the club before making a decision on his future.

But Chairman Tony Kleanthous was delighted to confirm the former Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona man had decided to stay put today.

"Last season ended disappointingly but I'm thrilled Edgar has decided to stay. I know he is the right man to take us forward," he told BBC Sport.

"He has started a football revolution here and we hope to maintain our new, attractive style of play. It is a measure of the man that he wants to stay to finish the job he started."

The news comes as a massive boost to Barnet who will start next season in the Conference Premier, their first outside the Football League since 2005.

Many experts praised Davids for his willingness to cut his managerial teeth at such a low level, but few expected him to entertain life in the fifth tier of English football, with coaching opportunities believed to be on the table from a number of his previous clubs.

Barnet face a tough season having left their stadium Underhill for a temporary structure at their training ground, coupled with a fiercely competitive division featuring several ex-Football League clubs desperate for a return that features just two promotion places.
