With football growing more and more business-minded by the day, many fans will complain that the vast amounts of money and corporate interests are ruining the beautiful game.

But there is one positive that can be taken out of all the corporate sponsorship - and that is the amount of hilarious television advertisements from across the globe featuring our heroes and their suspect acting abilities trying to flog us unsuspecting supporters yet another product.

Manchester United | Pepsi 1999

This 1999 Brazilian ad for Pepsi features a treble-winning Manchester United. The story is set in the half-time dressing room as United are being spanked 3-0; Sir Alex Ferguson is remarkably calm considering the situation and he begins to throw out cans of Pepsi to his weary players.

Roy Keane and Dennis Irwin look like they would rather be somewhere else, while Peter Schmeichel comically fumbles and drops his can and says, deadpan: “I’m only joking”. Brilliant.

Manchester United | Mister Potato 2012

This bizarre collaboration between the ever business-savvy Manchester United and their brilliantly titled “Official Asian Savory Snack Partner” produces a thing of rare beauty.

This short clip shows Stretford End heroes Antonio Valencia, Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa saying the word “bole” and tucking into some of Malaysia’s favourite Mister Potato flavours including spicy seaweed, Mexican cheese and black pepper chicken. No wonder Carlos Tevez moved to City.
