After seven turbulent months in charge of Chelsea, Rafael Benitez can walk away from Stamford Bridge with his head held high.

After beating Benefica to land the Europa League and securing Champions League football next season, it’s a good job done by the Spaniard.

The fans did not show immense appreciation but nor did Benitez join in the lap of honour after their 2-1 victory over Everton on Sunday. He left the players to celebrate with their families and fans.

On the other hand the reaction to David Moyes was that of gratitude and love. Moyes has not won a trophy in 11 years at Everton but his achievements could be seen as more impressive than that of what Chelsea have managed under Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich.

During his 11 years, Everton have competed on a level without the wealth of money that Chelsea have had thrown at them.

Everton have had a taste of Champions League football - albeit only the qualifying stages - and reached an FA Cup final which they lost to Chelsea.

They have always been close to winning silverware and have managed to finish in the top eight in nine of the eleven seasons under Moyes.

During his time at Liverpool, Benitez famously won the Champions League and FA Cup, as well as the UEFA Super Cup.

Benitez leaves a squad of happy, healthy players that have got their drive and motivation back. So, whoever the next boss of Chelsea is, whether it is Jose Mourinho or someone else, he has left them a team full of confidence once again.

What was once a hostile crowd from the Blues' end when Benitez took over Chelsea as their interim manager was now a crowd with most, but not all, showing respect for what the Spaniard had done for the club.
