Manchester United are preparing an €18million bid to land exciting young Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
According to Marca, Barcelona will be powerless to stop the Old Trafford club snapping up the 22-year-old due to a clause in his contract.
Thiago signed a new Barcelona deal two years ago that set his buyout clause at €90million, but it was agreed that the clause would drop to €18million if the 22-year-old did not make a certain number of appearances.
This is precisely what has happened, as the Spain international has only made 14 starts in La Liga this season after falling down the pecking order under Tito Vilanova.
The report claims Manchester United are aware of this and are seriously considering activating the buyout clause.
€18million is a reasonable price for one of Europe’s most promising young midfielders, though the Red Devils will not be the only club after him.
Marca also claim Bayern Munich could be interested in Thiago, as Pep Guardiola was a great admirer of him when in charge at Camp Nou and was the manager that handed him his Barcelona debut.
