Gareth Bale swooped all of the individual awards up for grabs in the Premier League this season - and rightfully so as he was the standout player, scoring many sublime goals.

The quality and quantity of Bale's goals from the flank this term suggests that he could be the next big thing in football. Even Real Madrid legend - and current director of football - Zinedine Zidane described Bale as a phenomenal player.

The Welsh winger has often been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, who terrorised defences in the Premier League much before Bale was pushed forward from left-back to left-wing.

The comparisons between Bale and Ronaldo aren't too farfetched, and statistically they have been similar.

Ronaldo obviously has played football for more years than Bale, so to create the most accurate comparison we compare Bale's current season to Ronaldo's season at the age of 24 - Bale will turn 24 in two months' time.

This will help prove why Bale can come close to emulating Ronaldo's exploits in the Premier League.

Gareth Bale 2012/13

Age: 23 years and 10 months
Games: 53
Goals: 30
Assists: 11

Bale scored nine goals from outside the box this season, higher than anyone in Europe and two more than Lionel Messi. Bale's goals and assists won Tottenham an overwhelming 30 points in the Premier League, and without him they would have finished 13th in the league.

Cristiano Ronaldo 2008/09

Age: 24 years
Games: 68
Goals: 35
Assists: 9

Ronaldo scored many of his goals from free-kicks, while some were long range efforts. Ronaldo's goals and assists earned Manchester United 16 points, and without him they would've finished fourth.

The statistics prove Bale isn't far off Ronaldo, and the fact that Bale plays for a weaker team where he has to make his own goals show why he could become as good as, or if not better than, Ronaldo in the future.
