Serbian referee Sasa Stefanovic is facing charges of an alleged assault after head-butting a goalkeeper in a futsal match on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred in a clash between Ekonomac and Marbo, when play was interrupted after the shocking act which sees Stefanovic march directly over to Miodrag Aksentijevic before bashing heads with the unsuspecting stopper.

According to reports in the local media Aksentijevic was later treated in hospital, while Stefanovic was arrested by police and ordered to give his statement of events.

Judging by footage, the whole episode seems to have been blown a little out of proportion, with an over-the-top reaction by security officials who piled onto the pitch to separate the ref from the Ekonomac goalkeeper and his riled up team-mates.

That's not to say for one second anyone here at GiveMeFootball is justifying the disgraced referee's actions - but an assault charge might be a bit harsh!
