Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle believes Jose Mourinho is the logical choice to take charge at the club this summer.
The Real Madrid chief is set to leave the helm at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, with the club confirming on Monday that the former Porto chief is walking away early from his contract.
Chelsea have a vacancy after Rafa Benitez concluded his interim period in charge of the club, guiding the Blues to third in the Premier League and glory in Europe.
Mourinho is the bookmakers favourite to take charge at Stamford Bridge, having enjoyed success in west London in the past. And, in the eyes of Hoddle, a return for ‘the special one’ makes perfect sense after his past glories at the club.
“I think Mourinho makes sense for Chelsea. He's been there before, understands the job and has had success,” Hoddle told GiveMeFootball in an exclusive interview at Wentworth.
“I think he's a very good manager who would do a very good job again.”
Hoddle, who was speaking ahead of his round in the pro-am at the BMW-PGA Championship yesterday, also had kind words for Benitez, who leaves Chelsea with his head held high after a strong finish to the season.
The Blues will play in the Champions League after the Spaniard guided the club to a top four finish, whilst success in the Europa League provided another piece of silverware for both Roman Abramovich and the fans.
“He did a great job, under the circumstances and the pressure that he was under when he took charge at Stamford Bridge,” he added.
“Winning the Europa League and a top four finish – I don’t think anybody at Chelsea can really argue with that result to be fair.”
