Galatasaray were the front-runners to snare the Turkey international at the end of the season, but the Turkish club's president Unai Aysal has revealed Chelsea's interest in the winger.
The 26-year-old attacker was the subject of talks between Atletico and Galatasaray according to Aysal, but Chelsea have now joined the race. And the Galatasaray president revealed Atletico are desperate to hold onto their midfielder anyway.
Aysal said: "Chelsea are involved with Arda and we won't be able to match what they are offering.
"I met with the head of Atletico Madrid, he told me that there were three players the club definitely do not want to sell, one of them being Arda Turan."
The Turkey international has 64 caps for his country, and moved to La Liga from Galatasaray in 2011.
He's been linked with a return to his former club this summer after two seasons in Spain but it seems Chelsea are prepared to hijack the move.
Turan can operate in a number of positions across the attacking line, from the number 10 role to a station out wide. He's a tricky, creative midfielder in the mould of Juan Mata.
Chelsea already have a number of players who can play the position, from Mata to Eden Hazard and Oscar.
But the club is building a footballing style based around attacking midfield creativity, and Turan would bring extra strength-in-depth for the next Blues manager.
