Now that Manchester United have played their final fixture of the season, which resulted in a 5-5 draw away at West Brom sat Sunday, and Sir Alex Ferguson has retired, many questions are weighing heavily on the minds of United supporters worldwide.

For me, an interesting question to consider is: will Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini be making the move to United?

Let’s delve a bit deeper.

Leighton Baines

With David Moyes set to take over on July 1, who is likely to follow him to Old Trafford?

Leighton Baines has been one of the suggested possibilities. Baines joined Everton just a few days before the start of the 2007/08 season, and is acutely aware of how Moyes manages a club and what his expectations are.

While Baines' goalscoring record this season hasn’t been spectacular - with a total of seven total goals between the Premier League and the FA Cup in 43 appearances - he’s been a reliable defender for Everton this season.

He has not been dismissed from a fixture this season - and has only tallied four bookings altogether. He has been an instrumental part of the Everton defence and has helped the Toffees maintain their position in the Premier League.

Baines is contracted at Goodison Park until 2015 season, so his future remains to be seen.

Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini signed for Everton in a transfer deadline-day switch in September 2008. In bringing Fellaini to Goodison Park, Everton broke their transfer record, paying over £12m for the player.

The Belgian midfielder has scored a total 12 goals in all competitions, and has 11 bookings under his name. He is a very aggressive force on the pitch for the Everton side, and has certainly done his part at Goodison Park this season.

What’s next?

One thing is for certain, Manchester United are at the beginning of a new era. I would fancy seeing both Baines and Fellaini in the queue to join the Red Devils. They would be a fantastic addition to the squad.

Both Baines and Fellaini would be in a good position to give added back-up to current players on the United side, such as Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie. While there is no doubt that Manchester United are the undisputed champions of England, the quest for the treble season next year is forefront on the minds of players and management alike.

It is highly likely that whoever gets the nod from the club, their potential contributions in Champions League and FA Cup fixtures will be a key factor in their scrutiny by United management.

Having served under Moyes these past five seasons gives these two a boost, in my opinion.

As a die-hard Manchester United supporter, I would be very well pleased to see these two lads make the move with David Moyes. For now, we wait and see.
