Wigan-Leeds clash offers real Super League magic
Wigan Warriors-Leeds Rhinos clash a fitting finale for Magic Weekend
The biggest weekend of the Rugby League calendar is upon us, with all 14 teams set to play over two mad days at the Magic Weekend.
And, there is little doubt that the clash between league-leaders Wigan and reigning champions Leeds is the pick of the seven matches on offer at the Etihad Stadium.
Warriors veteran Sean O’Loughlin is certainly looking forward to it, and knows that recent form is likely to go out the window when the two teams cross the whitewash in Manchester.
"A lot of people have had their eye on it for a few weeks now," O'Loughlin told BBC North West Sport.
"It's set up to be a great game. We're coming off the back of a couple of good wins and they've lost a couple, but we know what a quality side they are."
The Wigan captain was also happy to talk-up the impact of Sam Tomkins at the DW Stadium, having watched the England international score in 10 consecutive matches for his side.
Tomkins has scored 21 Super League tries to-date, and O’Loughlin admits his current form makes him worth at least 20 points a game.
"He's probably responsible for 20 points a game for us at the minute. That's the kind of player he is,” added the loose forward.
"He loves scoring tries and he's hungry to get over the line. He's one of those players that I'd sooner be playing alongside than against.
"Hopefully he can continue his form. You want your best players in the competition playing well at the end of the year for England's sake [with the World Cup beginning in October]."
The clash between the two sides will bring an end to Magic Weekend on Sunday night, with six matches before the finale.
Catalan Dragons face London Broncos, Castleford meet Wakefield, Hull FC and Hull KR meet in a derby and St Helens face Warrington on Saturday, before Salford take on Widnes and Bradford meet Huddersfield the following day.
