A Europa League place is something that isn’t often seen as a major prize, but once you get to a playoff for one you still want to win it.

You definitely don’t want to make one of the worst blunders of your career and effectively hand the Europa League place to your opponents.

Sadly, that’s exactly what happened when Utrecht travelled to FC Twente for the first leg of the Eredivisie playoff.

Things were bad enough for Twente in the 59th minute, what with being 1-0 down at home and all, before goalkeeper Sander Boschker doubled the home fans’ misery.

A tame ball was bouncing back to him and sat up perfectly for him to put his foot through, sending it to safety.

For some reason Boschker didn’t do that; instead he came up with an awkward looking action that looked as though he was caught between kicking and controlling.

Whatever it was, it ended horrendously and Utrecht forward Edouard Duplan was presented with a nice clear run to tap home into an open goal to make it 2-0.

That’s was the final scoreline and Twente face an uphill task in the second leg away from home.

Special thanks to 101GreatGoals for bringing the hilarious blunder to our attention.
