Liverpool are have stepped-up their interest in German goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, according to reports.
Metro claims the Reds are willing to pay in the region of £8million to bring the player to Anfield, despite being warned off a move by Hannover.
“Zieler will stay. He is a super goalkeeper. It’s rather normal he is in the focus, and I was actually wondering why, until now, he had not been approached by another club,” said general manager Dirk Dufner.
The comments have done little to put the Reds off the 24-year-old however, with Brendan Rodgers looking to provide Pepe Reina with some strong competition on Merseyside, according to the report.
Reina has also been linked with a move away from Liverpool, and were the Spaniard to join Barcelona in the transfer window, he would need to reinforce in the position quickly.
Brad Jones is currently the No.2, but the Reds are anything but flush with options in the position.
Zieler, meanwhile, moved back to Gemany in 2010 after his spell with the Red Devils failed to lead to first team football. He initially spent time at Northampton Town on loan before moving to the AWD-Arena.
A move to Liverpool would cap a dramatic turnaround in English football, but it’s clear Hannover don’t wish to sell the talented 24-year-old.
