Arsenal legends Tony Adams and Robert Pires have insisted that the club have to spend big in the summer if they are to start challenging for trophies again next season.
The Gunners ended the season strongly by turning around a seven-point deficit that saw them eventually finish fourth in the Premier League, ahead of rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Their impressive end ensured that the club will be in the Champions League for a 17th consecutive season under Arsene Wenger.
Despite the Champions League record, Arsenal are still going through a trophy droubt which has now tallied up to eight years. Their last trophy coming in 2005 when they beat Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup Final.
Tony Adams, who is a legend at the club and has a statue of himself outside the Emirates Stadium, spent 22-years at Arsenal and captained the side to 10 major honours has shown his support to Arsene Wenger, but he believes now is the time for him to start splashing the cash if he wants to challenge for trophies again.
Adams told reporters: "The best players and the best teams win championships.
"Lately Arsenal have become very solid and (Laurent) Koscielny and (Per) Mertesacker have gained a confidence together, but defensively I think they are still short - I'd like to see them sign another centre-back, a couple of full-backs and possibly a keeper."
The ex-Arsenal defender commented on the fans saying that he understands their frustrations at not winning anything, but he believes they have to continue to support the young players.
"The fans are desperate for a trophy of some sort," he added. "I would like the players to get used to winning; if you have never had that experience of crossing the line as a winner you don't know what it is like to be a winner.
"Jack Wilshere is very important to the club, but you can't rush him. I think he has played more games than Arsene (Wenger) would have wanted him to play following his injury, but he's such an influential player for us."
Another club-legend, Robert Pires, has also been speaking with Tony Adams and he believes that the club would be wrong to lose faith in Arsene Wenger as he believes he has made Arsenal what they are today.
"Wenger built Arsenal so he is very important to the players and needs to stay," Pires said.
Pires then also weighed in on Arsenal's transfer policy and the Frenchman believes the club should start signing more English players.
"In my opinion I think Arsenal need to buy English players.
"He (Wenger) has changed the philosophy at the club, he brought in young players like (Theo) Walcott, (Alex-Oxlade) Chamberlain and (Aaron) Ramsey, these players are very good for the future but now they need to buy some players with experience to give a good mix."
