Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has signed a new contract at the Etihad Stadium, which keeps him at the club until 2017.

The Argentina international first joined City from Atletico Madrid in a club record deal in 2011, and scored the vital goal in Manchester City’s last-gasp victory that earned them the Premier League title last season with his now famous injury-time strike against QPR.

The striker has enjoyed great form in England, with his current record of 47 goals in 69 matches for City.

Now the Argentine will enjoy penning an extra year to his current contract.

Aguero has recently been linked with a move back to Madrid, with speculative interest from Atletico’s rivals Real Madrid. However, this latest addition to his contract should ward off any interest in his services from any other teams.

The striker has also enjoyed becoming a massive fan favourite in England, whilst being able to keep his starting eleven place among many of the club’s top strikers, such as Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko, who has been tipped to move elsewhere in recent months.

In an interview with Aguero from Sky Sports, the forward said: “I have a fantastic relationship with the fans, and that always reminds me of our title and that goal against QPR. I can never forget that moment.

"Now I am looking forward to next season and pushing hard to win the title again.”

Ahead of news that Manchester City’s players may begin to depart the Etihad, the club's fans will be reassured to know that their star striker will be playing Premier League football next season.
