Manchester City beat Chelsea in eight-goal friendly thriller
Manchester City 5-3 Chelsea: Yankee Stadium, New York
Manchester City overcame Chelsea for the second time in the space of three days, ending their post-season tour of the United States with an emphatic 5-3 victory.
In a game that was high on entertainment but low on defensive quality, the Premier League runners-up defeated the recently crowned Europa League champions in this eight-goal thriller.
Gareth Barry opened the scoring in just the third minute, before Samir Nasri doubled the managerless Citizens' lead, following a well-taken chipped finish past the outrushing Hilario in the Chelsea goal.
Still seaming from their 4-3 defeat at the hands of City in St Louis on Thursday, Chelsea halved the deficit less than a minute after the restart, when Brazilian midfielder Ramires rounded substitute goalkeeper Richard Wright to make it 2-1.
City regained their two-goal advantage through James Milner, when the midfielder exchanged a one-two with Edin Dzeko before unleashing a low-drive into the bottom corner, before Ramires scored his and Chelsea's second goal in the 69th minute.
Nasri made it 4-2 with another impressive finish before Chelsea hit back again via a Juan Mata free-kick to leave the scores tentatively poised at 4-3 at the Yankee Stadium in New York.
However, Dzeko wrapped up the victory with a stunning 25-yard strike, sending the 39,462 strong crowd home happy after another enjoyable encounter between the two Premier League sides.
