Manchester United and Barcelona are preparing to tussle over Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti this summer.

According to Sportmediaset, reports of Barcelona interest in the 30-year-old were coming out of Spain just hours after Lazio had defeated their city rivals AS Roma in the Coppa Italia final.

However, the report claims Manchester United scouts have a strong interest ion Marchetti and any move by Barcelona could spark Old Trafford officials into action.

Camp Nou scouts are trying to identify a replacement for outgoing number one Victor Valdes, who is reportedly set to join big-spending AS Monaco this summer.

David de Gea is number one at Manchester United, though rumours over the future of his understudy, Anders Lindegaard, could mean new manager David Moyes will have to find another ‘keeper.

Moyes has a tough task on his hands after taking over from the retired Sir Alex Ferguson, though the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford is fairly stable after De Gea made great progress throughout the season.

Marchetti was in goal as Lazio prevailed 1-0 over Roma in Italy’s season finale on Sunday evening.
