Arsenal & Liverpool target tipped for transfer
Arsenal, Liverpool transfer news: Swansea City boss admits Ashley Williams could be sold
Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Swansea City captain Ashley Williams after his manager conceded one of his stars could leave.
Michael Laudrup insisted he did not want the reported Emirates Stadium and Anfield target to leave, but revealed he may have to accept it.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and his counterpart at Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers, have both been credited with an interest in the Wales international.
Reports last week even suggested Arsenal had come to an agreement with Williams over personal terms and that a deal with Swansea would soon be struck.
However, the 28-year-old was reportedly a fan of Liverpool as a boy and the Anfield club were confident of convincing him to move to Merseyside over north London.
Laudrup’s latest quotes appear to suggest Williams could be on his way out of the Liberty Stadium, as the Swans could use the funds to further strengthen the squad.
“There has been a lot of talk and let’s see what happens,” the Dane was quoted as saying by the Express.
“He extended his contract not so long ago, like I did. Maybe we have to accept one player will go, but not any more.
“We need some players and we have to strengthen our squad to compete and try to consolidate the team.
“There is a lot of work to do this summer. One thing is to find them and another to then go and sign them.”
