Gareth Bale better than Neymar – welcomes Madrid interest

Published 5 Comments

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer plans have taken a hit after Gareth Bale’s agent revealed live on Spanish television that the winger would be open to a Real Madrid offer.

It wasn’t all about Real Madrid, however, as he also claimed the 23-year-old was better than new Barcelona signing Neymar and would cost quite a lot more.

Bale was reportedly set to sign a new and improved deal at White Hart Lane, despite the fact they missed out on Champions League qualification, to stay for at least next season.

However, Jonathan Barnett’s comments may have given encouragement to Santiago Bernabeu president Florentino Perez to further pursue the option of signing Bale.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and manager Andre Villas-Boas are unlikely to be pleased about the interview on TV show ‘Futboleros’, though Barnett did insist he was not in talks with anybody at the moment.

“If someone like Mr Perez was interested in Bale it would be a great honour. And we would listen,” he said.

“We’re not speaking to anybody… Bale is better than Neymar. He’s proved himself better than Neymar. He’s proved himself in the best league in the world.”

Real Madrid had attempted to sign Neymar ahead of Barcelona but the Brazil star opted for Camp Nou over the Spanish capital.

Barnett said any club wanting Bale should be going for their first choice and claimed missing out on Neymar should not be the motivation, as the Welshman was the better player and would cost more.

“I would hope that any club who wants him, wants him not because they lost Neymar. I would think he’d have to be their first choice,” he added.

“Listen, it’s crazy, but whatever Neymar cost, Gareth Bale is worth more.”
