Manchester United targeting £40m star prompts contract offer

Juventus are ready to offer Arturo Vidal a bumper new deal to ward off interest from the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

The Serie A champions are worried about losing one of their star men, who has been valued at about £40milllion, to Old Trafford, Etihad Stadium or Santiago Bernabeu and want to tie him down with a new contract, according to La Stampa.

The Chile international has been a key component in the Juventus midfield for their two consecutive Scudetti and some of Europe’s biggest clubs have taken note.

Manchester United have a new manager in David Moyes and his interest in Vidal could be the beginnings of him putting together a squad in his own image after Sir Alex Ferguson retirement.

The Old Trafford club will have to address the centre midfield position after the retirement of Paul Scholes, the poor form of Anderson and long-term fitness issues over Darren Fletcher.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are expected to appoint current Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager and he is likely to want to make a number of signings.

Both teams, it appears, will have to look elsewhere as Juventus are preparing to offer Vidal a €4million-a-year deal.
