Arsenal have been dealt in their pursuit of a Bacary Sagna replacement, as first choice option Lukas Piszczek has been struck down with injury.

According to the Daily Star, the Gunners were keen on the Borussia Dortmund star after the Bundesliga club’s impressive run to the Champions League final this season.

The report claims Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger allowed Dortmund the use of their London Colney training facilities ahead of the clash with Bayern Munich at Wembley.

Jürgen Klopp’s men eventually lost the final 2-1 but the report claims Wenger was impressed with what he saw of Piszczek at the Arsenal training ground.

It also says the 27-year-old was the Emirates Stadium chief’s number one target to replace Sagna, whose future at Arsenal has been questioned heading into this summer.

However, Arsenal may be forced to look elsewhere as Piszczek has reportedly been stuck down with a hip injury that could require surgery.

It is feared the injury could rule him out for as much as five months, which would likely rule out any potential switch to north London.
