Liverpool to challenge big-spenders for Spain international

Liverpool are ready to go up against big-spending Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race to sign Sevilla winger Jesus Navas.

The Spain international looks set to spark a summer transfer tussle after Manchester City were reportedly readying a £25million bid to ward of interest from Real Madrid.

However, talkSPORT are now claiming Brendan Rodgers sees Navas as the ideal new addition to his Anfield revolution.

Liverpool are desperate to get back into the Champions League and the changes made under Rodgers appeared to have sparked some improvement in the second half of the season.

They are still not getting close to the Premier League’s leading clubs, which could scupper their hopes when it comes to Navas.

Manchester City’s spending power dwarfs that of Liverpool and they can offer the 27-year-old Champions League football.

Sevilla are reported to prefer one of their prized assets to move to the Etihad Stadium over Real Madrid, though they are resigned to selling owing to financial difficulties.
