The Eredivisie’s Europa League playoff isn’t half lively. Last week we brought you an FC Twente goalkeeper howler in the first leg and the second leg hasn’t failed to excite.
Sander Boschker’s blunder last week gave Utrecht a two-goal lead going into the home tie and Twente needed a special performance to reverse the deficit.
They nearly did it too, as Dusan Tadic and Nacer Chadli turned up with a pair of absolute belters with a little over 30 minutes gone in the match.
Both were 35-yard beauties that left Utrecht ‘keeper Robbin Ruiter rooted to the spot with no hope of stopping them as they flew into the top corner.
It was game on but Twente could not capitalise on the incredible start and the man that benefitted from Boschker’s blunder in the first leg, Edouard Duplan, was on hand again to put his side ahead on aggregate.
The game finished at 2-1 and Utrecht secured the last Europa League spot ahead of FC Twente, despite their wondergoal double.
