Serie 'A' champions Juventus are considering a £17m bid for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

Reports in Italy claim Juventus have identified the Mexican international as their back-up choice should a deal for Real Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain fall through.

The Argentine forward has been strongly linked with a move to the Juventus Stadium, but the defending Italian champions are preparing a contingency plan to avoid making the same mistakes in the transfer market as last summer.

They wanted a big-money striker 12 months ago, but failed to secure their top targets and eventually had to make do with loan moves for the likes of Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner.

And Juventus boss Antonio Conte doesn't want to make the same mistake twice, and is looking to strengthen his forward options for next term.

Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente is already one confirmed arrival - the Spaniard will join on a free transfer at the end of the season.

But Manchester United are unlikely to want to lose Hernandez, who has proved an invaluable asset for the Old Trafford club since joining in 2010.

Incoming United boss David Moyes will want to retain much of the squad that won another Premier League title last season, as the former-Everton manager takes over from Sir Alex Ferguson.

And he has transfer priorities of his own - with Marouane Fellaini, Luka Modric and Cesc Fabregas all reportedly targets.
