Andre Villas-Boas was bitterly disappointed at losing out to rivals Arsenal for fourth place and a lack of Champions League football next season will have a huge affect on Spurs’ transfer plans.

Some quality signings will be essential if the White Hart Lane club are to maintain the momentum they have gained in the last few years, though the biggest factor is pretty obvious – Gareth Bale.

The Welsh winger was the outstanding player in the Premier League last season with some quite incredible performances. Real Madrid are on a full charm offensive and Daniel Levy’s greatest achievement would be hanging onto the one man that could propel them into the upper echelons of European football.
