Juventus are set to make an offer of €5 millon plus Felipe Melo for Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez according to Football Italia.

The Old Lady have been looking for a forward to join their ranks and have also been heavily linked to Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain – with the striker seemingly certain to join their ranks – but their new found interest in Tevez now puts this deal in doubt.

The 29-year-old Argentine has not had the most comfortable of times at Manchester City (or in England at all) and his complicated relationship with former boss, Roberto Mancini, was well documented.

The ex-Manchester United and West Ham United man may see this as a chance to finally leave England behind, although he may wish to wait until he sees who the new Manchester City boss is and what this new manager’s plans are for the team and Tevez himself.

Despite Tevez’s controversial time in England, he has managed to score 114 goals in his 266 appearances for English sides; with 73 of these goals coming in his 138 appearances for his current side, Manchester City.

He has also made 62 appearances for Argentina – scoring 13 goals – but has not been called up to the side in nearly two years.

However, it is clear to see why any side would want to have Tevez’s quality upfront and his work ethic on the pitch is second-to-none.

Should Juventus make the offer, Felipe Melo would be heading in the opposite direction.

The 29-year-old Brazilian international has been out-of-favour for some time at Juventus – having spent the last two seasons on loan at Galatasaray – and has been linked with moves to England in the past.

In spite of making of 65 appearances for the Turkish side, during those two seasons, they have decided not to permanently sign the midfielder and, thus, the deal with Manchester City is possible.

In some ways, a part-swap deal works well for both teams.

In Juventus’ case, they get an unwanted player off their wage bill and acquire a dogged, yet extremely talented, striker; just what they are looking for.

In Manchester City’s case, they get rid of a player that is not totally happy at the club and gain a midfield general that can sit in front of the defence; allowing Yaya Toure to play in an attacking role permanently.
