Neymar: A future Barcelona great?

Published Add your comment

Finally the countless rumours and reports can end and the excitement can begin.

Neymar has left Santos for Europe. Barcelona is the destination for the young Brazilian and many around the world will be intrigued as to how he handles life outside of South America.

Arguably the best young talent is making the trip across the pond, and watching Neymar play for Santos has been a real treat.

There is no doubting the lad's technical ability - it is sublime - and having made 230 appearances, 138 goals is quite prolific considering he is in the early stages of his career.

He can dazzle as many have seen on various YouTube clips. Some of the moves he pulls off are entertaining and pure fun to watch - will this change?

Is he going to have to curb his ways a little, or will Tito Vilanova allow him to express himself?

It will be a gigantic step up for Neymar. We have seen him fail when making the jump to international level and handling the new pressures that come with playing for Barcelona will play a huge role in the direction Neymar's career heads.

The tears at his last Santos game were great to see. It shows he has love, passion and respect for his team. It will endear him to the fans immediately and that will help tremendously.

As a football fan I can't help but get excited about this move. With the talent he possesses we could have a potential great on our hands, but as we have seen time and time again young Brazilians do not always live up to anywhere near the hype and potential they possess.

A lot of questions are yet to be answered and many more will arise but, for the time being, get excited about this move because next season football fans could be in for an exciting treat.
