Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is "not one to get excited about" for West Ham fans, according to reports.
Shelvey is a former Upton Park youth product and has been regularly linked with a move to the east London club over recent weeks.
A : club source told SportsDirect News"It's not one to get excited about but it's a good idea to comment on this kind of speculation before it gets out of hand. There's a cautious interest - no more than that."
The 21-year-old spent three years at Upton Park as a youngster before moving on to Charlton, where he became the club's youngest ever goalscorer.
This came at the age of 16 years and 59 days and the midfielder soon left London to join Liverpool.
With the supposed transfer of Andy Carroll, there is also rumours that West Ham are talking to the Merseyside club over a possible move for the midfielder.
The source added: "There's nothing firm about this one at all - Jonjo's name was mentioned as a possible along with several others in a general discussion."
While at Charlton, Shelvey made 47 appearances before moving to Liverpool, where so far, he has made 70 appearances, scoring on seven occasions. While at the Anfield club, he has also been sent on loan to Blackpool where he made ten appearances, finding the net on six occasions.
