Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has been handed a huge nine-month ban for barging a referee.
The incident occurred following a controversial 1-1 draw between PSG and Valenciennes on May 5th at the Parc des Princes, with the Brazilian caught on camera shoulder charging the official.
Leonardo had claimed that it was simply 'a coming together' in the tunnel, but the video evidence appears to show things a little differently.
Alexandre Castro was the man to feel the wrath of the former Inter Milan manager, and his nine-month ban means he’s not allowed on the bench, in the referee’s dressing room or at any official functions. It could also hamper his chances of potentially succeeding Carlo Ancelotti as manager - if the Italian leaves for Real Madrid.
Leonardo may appeal the ruling at the French Football Federation's court of appeal, and is likely to do so given the severity of the punishment handed down by the league's disciplinary committee.
