Djokovic sets up revenge match against Dimitrov

Top seed Novak Djokovic will be looking to avenge his Madrid Open defeat to Grigor Dimitrov in the Roland Garros third round, after he swept past Guido Pella 6-2 6-0 6-2 to set up an appetizing encounter with the rising Bulgarian.

Pella was no match for the Belgrade native, who wrapped up the contest in just under 90 minutes, smashing 29 winners and breaking the Argentine’s serve seven times to stay on course to complete his Grand Slam set.

However, the Serb’s march towards his first French Open title could be halted by Dimitrov who earlier this month made the headlines by beating the world number one in an epic Madrid Open contest.

The 22-year-old, who is ranked 28th in the world, got the better of Lucas Pouille 6-1 7-6 6-1 in a rain-interrupted second round match to set up a blockbuster clash with Djokovic.

“I feel I'm playing good," said Dimitrov to "I know I can bring a bit more steam into the game. I think I might need that the next round. So I'm actually really looking forward to the next round. Hopefully it's going to bring out the best out in me.

"Playing against the No. 1 player in the world, it's of course a pleasure. But at the same time you've got to do everything from yourself and you've got to do the best thing you can.”

Djokovic came agonizingly close to completing his career slam last year, finishing runner up to Rafael Nadal in a tight four-set match. The six times grand slam champion could face the Spaniard in the semi-finals in this year’s event and is also bidding to become the first player since Jim Courier in 1992 to lift back-to-back Australian Open and French Open titles.
