Sir Alex Ferguson returned to Old Trafford on Sunday for the first time since relinquishing his position as Manchester United manager, and got into the party mood as a team of Red Devils legends faced ex-stars of Real Madrid.

The match was held for the Premier League champions' Red Heart charity, and pitted against each other some of the finest players to have plied their trade in European football over the past few decades.

Paul Scholes was back in action for Manchester United having retired at the end of the season, and was joined by former teammates Ruud van Nistelrooy, Edwin van der Sar, Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.

Up against the assembled team of Manchester United heroes were the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Fernando Morientes, with Real Madrid managing to secure a 2-1 victory in front of a packed house.

Among them was Ferguson, recently replaced as boss by David Moyes, and the veteran Scot was spotted enjoying himself in the stands as he joined in a Mexican wave that washed around Old Trafford.
