Frank Lampard has lavished praises on Neymar, claiming the new Barcelona signing does some “spectacular things” on the pitch.
Lampard may not be too knowledgeable about Neymar when it comes to detailing the 21-year-old’s long list of abilities, but the provisional England captain had the chance to face the Brazilian youngster in a friendly match back in February this year at Wembley Stadium, before Sunday's clash at the Maracana.
The Chelsea midfielder came on for Tom Cleverley on 46 minutes in that encounter and scored England’s winner on the hour mark, helping the Three Lions register a 2-1 win over Brazil.
But although Neymar failed to impose himself in the match, despite playing the full 90 minutes, Lampard still saw how talented the forward was.
And with a few YouTube videos about Neymar’s performances for Santos at his reach, it did not take long for Lampard to admit the Brazilian’s unique aptitude.
“I played against Neymar at Wembley in February and I've also seen some videos of him on YouTube. He does some spectacular things,” Lampard told journalists before Sunday's 2-2 draw.
The Chelsea legend also added that he spoke about the new Barcelona star to fellow-Brazilians David Luiz, Oscar and Ramires.
He stated that Neymar had what it took to dazzle in Spain and wished him well ahead of the new season.
Comparing the former Santos ace to Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Lampard declared that Neymar could be well on his way to reaching the top level in football.
“Football needs big players like Messi and Ronaldo, and I think Neymar could also be one of those players at the top,” he added.
Messi and Ronaldo are currently regarded as the best players in the world, with both finishing their season at the top of La Liga’s goalscoring chart.
Messi scored 46 goals in 32 league appearances, while Ronaldo – who also led the Champions League scoring chart with 12 goals – netted 34 goals in 34 league appearances.
