The United striker scored a sensational goal for England last night during their 2-2 draw away in Brazil and it was Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain that bagged the other, in an entertaining friendly.
It was a fortnight ago or so before the season end when it was announced that Rooney had asked Sir Alex Ferguson to leave the club and it will now be new manager David Moyes' job to try and keep the striker at the club.
With big clubs like; Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all confirming that they have no interest in the striker, Arsenal are growing increasingly confident that they could snap up the 27-year-old in the summer.
Wenger has been quoted as saying that anyone would be stupid not to go for Rooney because he is an interesting player in world football.
"Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?’ Wenger told Al Jazeera.
"David Moyes' first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney.
"If that is feasible or not depends on his personality and if Rooney bears a grudge or not, we will see. It will be interesting to see how that will be handled."
