Former NFL star Chad Johnson could face time in prison following an altercation with his ex-wife.

Johnson, who used to play for the Miami Dolphins, the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots, was arrested last month after failing to meet with his probation officer. Johnson insisted it was a misunderstanding and not intentional

The 35-year-old pleaded no contest to head-butting TV reality star Evelyn Lozada during an argument in August last year, who immediately filed for divorce, barely a month after being wed.

The wide receiver was the Receiving Yards Leader in the NFL in 2006, when he played for the Bengals.

Lozada is famous for being in American reality television series Basketball Wives, a show very similar to Footballers Wives in the UK.

A hearing is set for Monday in Broward County court for the six-time Pro Bowl winner.

The Pro Bowl is the all-star game of the NFL and because of its all-star nature, the game tends to be over looked as players wish to avoid injury.
