Martin Guptil's devastating innings against England on Sunday placed the New Zealand opener amongst an esteemed list of some of cricket's greats, with his knock the joint-fifth highest score ever in ODIs.

Guptil has made light work of England's bowlers during the series, which has been wrapped up by the Kiwis after just two matches, having registered a century in the opening encounter at Lord's, before bludgeoning the opposition in Southampton.

The 26-year-old's unbeaten and match-defining 189 is the highest ODI score in almost three years since India star Virender Sehwag set a new benchmark with a stunning 219 against the West Indies in Indore.

India teammate Sachin Tendulkar had been the first player to reach a double-century in a one-day international match, and he and Sehwag remain the only cricketers to have done so.
