Nobody can deny the quality that Luis Suarez possess nor the extra flair and goal-scoring threat that he brings to the Liverpool team.
However, should Liverpool cash in now on their most prized asset and look to strengthen the team in all areas?
Suarez has a lot to offer as a player. He is a very tricky individual who clearly possesses a goal scoring threat but he also a complicated character who has clearly attracted a lot of bad press during his spell on Merseyside.
Controversial moments, such as diving, biting and racism, has diverted attention away from some fantastic performances and spectacular goals by the Uruguayan. Liverpool have stuck by their player, sometimes to the detriment of their own reputation.
However, Suarez may feel that he is a marked man in England from opposition players and the authorities and the attention of clubs such as Real Madrid may well sway him to move abroad.
Liverpool are trying to rebuild their side so will want star players such as Steven Gerrard and Suarez to stay and help them in their ultimate goal of trying to challenge for the illusive Premier League trophy.
However, will Liverpool prefer to cash in on what would be a huge transfer fee for Suarez and invest this wisely in the rest of their squad. There are areas that need improvement such as in the central defensive areas and possibly a replacement for Pepe Reina if he departs during the summer.
Liverpool are still an attractive club for players so Suarez leaving may not be the greatest blow to what they are trying to achieve particularly as Brendan Rodgers is looking at a long-term plan and not just a quick fix.
Liverpool do have a reputation to uphold and at times it appears they are becoming a laughing stock with their sometimes blind defence of their star striker. They will not want their great club further tarnished by any other misdemeanours by Suarez.
In Daniel Sturridge Liverpool have a forward who can be a real hit at Anfield. Still only very young Sturridge has been earmarked by Rodgers as a player with a very bright future. He has already had a fantastic start to his Liverpool career and I believe can become a future star for Liverpool and England. Perhaps if Sturridge continues his form then he could step up to be the world-class striker that Suarez is now.
There is no doubt that Liverpool will not want to sell Suarez willingly but if the right offer comes along then I believe Liverpool will create an opportunity to both strengthen their team greatly in all areas and at the same time be able to divert a lot of the negative press that Suarez undoubtedly attracts to their club.
If Suarez does depart Anfield which areas of the team would Liverpool supporters like the money to be reinvested in?
