India beat Sri Lanka by five wickets in a high scoring encounter at Edgbaston in their ICC Champions Trophy warm up.

Batting first, Sri Lanka made 333 off their 50 overs but two centuries in the Indian innings got them to the total with an over to spare.

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kusal Perera opened the innings for Sri Lanka and both made scores of above 80 before they both retired in order to give other batsmen time in the middle.

Kumar Sangakkara hit 45 off 32 balls before Thisara Perera faced just 16 balls for his 26.

Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra and Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the wickets for India as Sri Lanka ended their 50 overs on 333/3.

India's reply got off to a poor start when opener Shikhar Dhawan was run out for just one after facing four balls.

This wicket brought Virat Kohli to the crease who smashed 144 off 120 balls, hitting eleven boundaries and three sixes.

A partnership between Kohli and Dinesh Karthik was what won India the game though as Karthik also hit a century.

The 28-year-old hit an unbeaten 106 off 81 balls to guide his team home. His innings included two sixes with 12 boundaries.

India finished on 337/5 with Shaminda Eranga the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers as he picked up 2-60 off nine overs.
