Leeds United manager Brian McDermott has urged the club to be patient in regards to signing new players during the transfer window.

McDermott took over at Elland Road in April following the departure of Neil Warnock as the Whites finished in 13th place.

The former Reading manager has told the fans not to panic if the club don't make signings in June.

"Ideally you'd have a number of players coming through the door in June for pre-season because when we go away we want to be taking those players with us," he told the club's official website.

"You have to be patient in June as well, I remember doing deals in August last season," he added.

Leeds were promoted to the Championship in the 2009-10 season after spending two seasons in League One. For the past three seasons the club have been attempting to get back into the Premier League but without success.

However, there is a belief around the club that next season could be the year they return into the top flight for the first time since 2004.

Boss McDermott has cut his holiday short and is working hard in an attempt to bring in fresh faces to Elland Road.

"I've been on the phone an awful lot, trying to get where we need to be," McDermott said.

"I'm back at the training ground now to try and do everything that we talked about towards the end of last season and that's in progress now really."

McDermott has experience of getting promotion from the Championship when he led his Reading side to the title in the 2011/12 season. But with the Royals struggling in the Premier League he was sacked towards the end of the season before being appointed as Leeds boss.

The 52-year-old admits that the transfer scenario he's experiencing at Leeds is slightly different to when he was at Reading.

He continued: "The phone has been quite hot actually, it's a little bit different here for me as it was at Reading."

"At Reading I had a Director of Football who took a lot of the phone calls from the agents. What's happening here is that the agents are contacting me, Gwyn Williams is involved and there is Shaun Harvey as well, so between the three of us that's happening."
