Chelsea have opened talks with Roma to sign Daniele De Rossi this summer, according to reports.
The west Londoners have made a formal request to speak to the Italy midfielder as they put plans into motion to sign key targets.
Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of De Rossi and wants the midfielder to form the heart of his team as he seeks to rebuild the kind of success he had in his first stint at the Blues.
The 29-year-old will be allowed to leave Roma for £15 million. The midfield maestro joined Roma at the age of 17 and has spent his entire professional career turning out for the club, accumulating 84 caps in the mean time.
Despite his contract not running out until 2017, the club have begun talks with Chelsea, as the midfielder is believed to be looking for a new challenge.
This season has not been his best, as he has lost his regular starting position in the heart of the Roma midfield. Negotiations between Roma Officials and Chelsea's back-room staff started last week over a deal, with a major sticking point expected to be his wage requirements rather than the transfer fee Roma are looking for.
